Arriving at Matera and parking the car in a recommended garage, we were picked up by a very helpful and friendly staff member (did not recall the name) so we did not have to walk with the bags. He was prompt and very kind. The hotel offered us an upgrade to our room - we had booked the one which is further from the reception. They offered us an amazing room in the hotel itself with a beautiful terrace. We could choose, of course, between the one we initially booked and the one they offered. Both rooms were amazing, however, we took the upgrade. This was the most romantic place we have stayed! Beautiful, authentic, matches the out of this worldly feel of Matera beautifully. Despite it being a cave, it felt luxurious, was spotlessly clean and warm. Every detail of the room was amazing! The balcony and the view - the best in Matera. Too bad we only stayed for one night! The location - again, the best there can be! Breakfast - was yet another exceeds any expectiations matter - a beautiful breakfast room, great variety, and wait for this - live music - the beautiful sound of a harp!!! The thermal pools - wow!!! Not to be missed! Most of all - the staff - we communicated with a lot of staff - reception, the spa, at breakfast and the driver - they were all so helpful, friendly and professional! This is probably the longest review I have written lately, but the place deserves and excellent review, so here it is! If we ever go back to Matera, I would love to book at least 2-3 nights in this same room! Thank you for a special stay!

We had a triple room which consisted of a double and a single. It was very spacious. It even had a bath tub/spa in its own little niche! Toiletries were plenty - no skimping! They made the bed daily which was such a treat. The room opened to the outdoors...there are quite a few steps to navigate from the elevator, but if you arrive within hours, the porter will help with your bags. The outdoor area had a lovely table and chair that you could sit in and just take in the incredible view of the Sassi. Breakfast was at the breakfast room and the food was plentiful and tasty. A variety of coffees were offered and brought to you. It was a highlight. The pool and the sauna facilities were great...very relaxing. only wish I could have gotten a massage..but i didnt have time. I would highly recommend this hotel. I would return again.

we chose the hotel due to having a thermal spa but omitted to read the fine print that it was only for over 18s so as we had our 12 year old grand daughter we’re unable to utilise the facilities. other than that it was perfect. breqkfast was included in room rate. the hotel was in the old town and right in the middle of everything. extremely easy to get around albeit up hill and down dale and lots of stairs. it was trembly cold being a wi ter stay and up in the mountains, but quite bearable. bed were comfortable. our kids and grad daughter got a famiiky suite which was ideal for them. we had a car and the hotel advised a suitable car park and had hotel shuttle

Anne

The breakfast was exceptional! Amazing selection of food and coffee was wonderful. The staff was so pleasant. We enjoyed a booking at the thermal pools which were so relaxing and clean. I would highly recommend splurging on this after a long day of walking around the town. Having specified a parking garage and having a free shuttle to the hotel was outstanding. The only way to go really! So many stairs, & narrow streets would have made finding the accomodation a tad bit difficult. This was a BIG PLUS.

The location is STUNNING. Right in the centre of Matera's Sassi area. The breakfast (included) was continental and very good. There's no restaurant, but it doesn't really matter as there are so many within walking distance of the hotel. The thermae spa under the hotel is a MUST. You have to book it and it costs 25 euros for 90 minutes but it's worth it to swim in blue-lit caves and use the steam rooms/saunas etc. We loved it. Our bedroom was a cave and, as far as we could tell, so were most of the other rooms.
